In "Father of Jihad," Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Souad Mekhennet tells the untold story of al-Awlaki's life and the dangerous ideology that led to his becoming a major threat to national security.
Mekhennet draws on extensive interviews with al-Awlaki's family, friends, and former associates to create a complex and nuanced portrait of a man who was both charismatic and deeply flawed.
She traces al-Awlaki's journey from a moderate imam to a radical jihadist, and she explores the role that his personal experiences, such as his time in prison in Yemen, played in his transformation.
Mekhennet also provides a chilling account of the 9/11 attacks and the role that al-Awlaki's teachings played in inspiring the plotters.
"Father of Jihad" is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the roots of modern terrorism. It is a gripping and deeply informative account of a dangerous man who played a key role in one of the most horrific events in American history.
